Surface Analysis
-Currently, there is an area of high pressure over the province of Quebec. This is providing the cool air over the region. There is a stationary front extending from Texas up to Virginia. A low is present along the front over eastern Texas. This will low will move up the front and impact our region Tuesday Night through Thanksgiving morning.
Watches:
-The National Weather Service has issued Winter Storm Watches posted for most of Vermont, North Country region of New Hampshire, Adirondacks of Eastern NY, and Northwestern Maine. There is a potentially for several inches of heavy wet snow.
Timing:
-Precipitation begins late Tuesday evening for Eastern NY and Southern New England. Precipitation begins early Wednesday morning for Northern New England.
-Precipitation ends late Tuesday afternoon- evening across Eastern NY and Western New England. Precipitation ends across Eastern New England early Thanksgiving morning.
Analysis:
A). 850 MB level Vorticity
-Vorticity maximum will be present across Eastern NY and Southern New England. Heavy precipitation will occur in these areas.
B). Winds
-Sustained winds above 20 mph along Coastal New England at the peak of the storm
-Winds gusting above 20 mph in higher elevations of New England and Eastern NY.
-Winds gusting to 40 + mph across Coastal Southern New England.
C). Waves
Waves: 4-6 ft waves possible across Coastal Southern New England
Precipitation amounts:
1.50-2.00 inches of rain across Southern New England
1-1.50 inches of Precipitation across Eastern NY
.50-1.50 inches of precipitation for many across Northern Eastern NY and Northern New England, with the exception of Northern Maine.
