Updated Forecast For Saturday, December 17th through Monday, December 19th

Good Morning Everyone,

Headline:

The tipsy turvy weather pattern continues.  So far, we had a few days of cooler weather and  snow.  Then a couple days later, we have above normal temperatures and rain.   A lot of places across Southern New England and Eastern NY have had more snowfall so far this season then areas across  Northern New England.  However, winter will be in temporary control over the next few days.  Some parts of Southern New England may pick up some light snow accumulations from a weak disturbance Saturday Night into Sunday.   Colder temperatures will remain in place through the early work week before a warm front moves in from the west later in the day Monday.

Surface Analysis:

A cold front is moving through the region later this evening and overnight.   An area of high pressure will build in behind the front over Southern Canada and provide a shot of refreshing cold air.  A weak clipper system will move through the region Saturday bringing in the way some clouds.  A Northernly Flow and the tapping of moisture from a low off the Northeast Coast will result in some snow shower activity for parts of Southern New England Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning.  A low over the Canadian Province of Saskatchewan will move towards the East-Southeast and track to the north of our region.  This will result in the dragging of milder air from the West-Southwest during the day Monday.  A cold front will proceed later in the day Monday.

Saturday Morning & Afternoon:

Mostly cloudy across parts of Northern New England and Northern Eastern NY.  Partly cloudy across Eastern NY and Southern New England in the morning.  Partly cloudy in the afternoon with flurries and sprinkles possible , with the exception of  Southern New England where clouds and scattered rain/snow showers will develop.  High temperatures in the 20s and 30s across Northern New England, 30s to near 40 across Southern New England and Eastern NY .  Winds from the North-Northwest at 5-15 mph, gusting to 20 mph along the coast.

Saturday Night:

Partly cloudy across Eastern New York and Western Southern New England.  Mostly clear across Northern New England.  Mostly cloudy with flurries & scattered snow showers across Eastern Massachusetts and parts of Rhode Island.  Light snow accumulations possible, especially across Cape Cod and the Islands.  Cold.  Low temperatures in the 0s and 10s for Northern New England, 10s and 20s to near 30 across Eastern NY and Southern New England .  Light  North winds, with the exception of Southeastern MA and Rhode Island with winds of 5-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph.

Sunday morning & afternoon:

Mostly sunny with the exception of Eastern MA, Southeast MA, and parts of Rhode Island where clouds may linger in the morning through early afternoon.  Mostly sunny in the afternoon.  High temperatures in the 20s and 30s.  Light North winds, with the exception of Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island with winds of 5-15 mph, gusting to 20 mph.
