Afternoon update

Currently, there is a batch of moisture moving east across region. There are scattered  showers and embedded downpours, especially in Southern New Hampshire,  Eastern New York, and Western New England. This will continue to move east this afternoon. Expect some heavy downpours.  isolated  flooding is possible across the region.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued across upstate New York.   Parts of Eastern New York, including Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga, Catskills, and southern Adirondacks. The Watch is up until 7 p.m this evening.  Conditions are favorable for Severe Storms to develop later this afternoon and evening. If you see storm clouds or hear thunder, take shelter.

-Currently, Cape values are very low across the region.  The lifted index, which is the difference in temperature between environment and an air parcel rising adiabatically is near zero, which doesn't support storm development.   The environment is more stable across New England and Eastern NY. There needs to be more instability across the region for thunderstorm development.  There needs to be sunlight,  a lower lifted index,  higher cape values, and other triggers for storm development across the area.
