Good morning everyone,
There is a high probability of Severe Weather to form this afternoon and evening across a huge chunk of the region. Currently on radar as of 11 am, there is a cluster of heavy showers and thundershowers across the Adirondacks, The province of Quebec, Northern Maine, Central NY, and North central PA. This will continue to progress to the east this afternoon and evening. This is associated with a cold front.
The lifted index values are very low across Western New England and Eastern NY with values as low as -4 and -5. The surface based cape values are between 500 to 2500 J/KG across Southern New ENgland and EAstern NY. The Bulk shear is up to 35 meters/second across parts of Eastern NY and parts of Western New England. This, along with sunlight and warm temperatures will create ideal conditions for storms to form. If out and about this afternoon and evening, be aware of severe storms developing. If you see dark clouds or hear thunder, head indoors.
The greatest threat from any storms will be hail, damaging winds, heavy rain, and an isolated threat of Tornadoes.
